…and other toys

An online app I developed single-handedly while working at Miniclip.com that allowed people to upload a picture of their face and modify it in hilarious ways.

Unfortunately due to the risk factor involved with letting people upload their pictures online, Miniclip decided to remove the app from their website.

Nevertheless, here are a couple of user-created videos that show the app’s “gameplay” using two popular celebrities pictures (more can be found on YouTube, look for “putty face“).

Sketch Star was a popular website and web-based app produced by Miniclip. In Sketch Star users could create animations and drawings, publish them online and share them with a community of fellow artists. Users could watch other people’s animations, rate them, comment on them, and enter themed contests with their own animations and cartoons. Here are a couple of videos that show Sketch Star was about better than a thousand words.

My involvement with Sketch Star included:

  • Leading a team of developers and artists to create and maintain the product and its related online community.
  • Collaborating tightly with the company’s advertising department to ensure a constant stream of sponsors and advertisers to monetize the product.
  • Setting, designing and maintaining social network pages (Facebook, Twitter, YouTube etc.) to improve users engagement across the web and open further channel of communication and engagement.
  • Designing and analyzing periodic usability tests for the application and the website to ensure the easiest workflow and usability in both.
  • Designing and improving the application’s GUI (graphic users interface) based on user’s feedback and usability test results.
  • Looking after many more run-of-the-mill tasks.
